“I really enjoy helping people learn more about supplements and find what works best for their individual needs.”

When it comes to magnesium, finding the right fit can be challenging because there are seven types that boost health in various ways. In this Q&A, Maddie talks about the magnesium products available in our stores, the benefits they offer, how to take this supplement safely, and more.

What is taking magnesium good for?

Maddie: Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in more than 300 processes in the body. It supports things like muscle and nerve function, energy production, bone health, blood sugar regulation, blood pressure, and normal heart rhythm. Many Americans also don’t get enough magnesium through their diet.

What is the best form of magnesium to take?

Maddie: I believe everyone is different, so there isn’t one form that is best for everyone. Glycinate is a great, gentle option for many people, but depending on someone’s specific needs, another form may be a better fit. I like to look at what someone is hoping to get from their magnesium and go from there.

What are some magnesium products customers can find at Rebekah’s?

Maddie: At Rebekah’s, we carry a variety of quality magnesium supplements. We have glycinate, which is a gentle and popular everyday option; citrate, which can be helpful for digestion; malate, which is often used for muscle and energy support; and taurate, which some people choose for cardiovascular support. We also carry magnesium complexes that combine multiple forms for overall support.

What’s the most common question you get asked about magnesium?

Maddie: The most common question I get is, “What are the different forms of magnesium, and which one should I take?” There are several different forms, and they can have different benefits, so it really depends on what someone is looking for.

Is it safe to take magnesium daily?

Maddie: For most healthy people, magnesium can be taken daily, but the right amount can vary from person to person. I generally recommend around 300–400 mg of magnesium per day, depending on the individual and how much they are already getting from food and other supplements.

If someone has a health condition, takes medication, or has concerns about taking magnesium, I always recommend checking with their healthcare provider.

What is one thing you want to share with someone who might be new to taking magnesium?

Maddie: I would recommend taking it in the evening, especially if using a form like glycinate as part of a relaxing nighttime routine. I would also make sure someone is choosing a quality magnesium supplement and the right form for their needs. What it means to find a ‘quality supplement’ is to know which brands are reputable; don’t have fillers and additives; use proper forms of vitamins instead of the inexpensive, ineffective forms; and are third-party tested.

At Rebekah’s we do all of the searching for you. We carry clean, trusted brands that use effective forms of vitamins and minerals, without the junk.

Why should someone shop for magnesium at Rebekah’s?

Maddie: Our wellness coaches are very knowledgeable about supplements and can help customers sort through all the different magnesium options. We can help you find a form that fits your needs and point you toward our top recommendations and products that we’ve had good feedback on. We really enjoy helping you find what works best for you!
