The Blessings of Bees 🐝

I’ve been keeping bees since 2012. Ever since I started, it has been with the intention of having a career that would be a win for everyone—myself, family, customers, and the environment. Beekeeping is truly deep in my heart and mind. It fits me well. To be outside with the bees, to stand in the middle of all of that life and energy, to hear the hum, inhale the scents of the hive—the pheromones and the curing of honey. To feel the heat come off a frame of bees and to feel that powerful force of life surrounding and grabbing you. No matter where I have been in life, to be in a beehive or even just be amongst the hives, the troubles of this world just fade away.

As much respect as I have for those bees, I have the same reverence for all that they produce: honey, wax, propolis, and pollen. At Spencer’s Apiaries, we carefully collect these things, when appropriate, and in the least stressful ways possible for the bees. We handle those products with the same care, ensuring that everything remains clean, potent, and exactly the way it was created to be.

🍯 Gifts of the Hive

Honey is far more than a sweetener. It is the only food that never expires. Honey can be used as a highly effective wound treatment, for coughs, and it can even help with internal struggles as well. It is a powerful medicine.

Beeswax is a super-clean, non-paraffin wax that is used to make the world’s finest candles, lip balms, salves, and polishes.

Propolis is a blend of tree resins and beeswax. It is antimicrobial, antibacterial, antiparasitic, and antiviral. It is another great treatment for wounds, sore throats, or to help boost the immune system.

Bee pollen contains nearly every element needed to sustain life. It energizes the cells and can help the body heal—an incredible supplement and source of protein. Bee pollen is often taken to help with seasonal allergies and can be easily mixed into things like smoothies, but personally I take it directly by the spoon.

📚 Classes, Resources, and More!

My mission is to care for these amazing pollinators. A big part of that is sharing knowledge with others through educational opportunities. First, we offer a variety of beekeeping classes—from introduction classes to hive exploration and even one-on-one professional hive inspection. Through these classes, you can learn the basics of bee biology, the tools you’ll need, and how to keep a hive happy and healthy.

We also have a beekeeper’s resource page on our website. This page features contacts and information for local sources of bees and queens, tools, supplies, and support for your own beekeeping journey.

Lastly, you can follow along with Spencer’s Bee School through my YouTube channel @SpencersApiaries. You never know what we’ll bee sharing there.
